Filler Dissolve
Filler dissolving is a quick, non-surgical treatment used to break down and remove hyaluronic acid (HA)-based dermal fillers.
How It Works:
The procedure uses a concentrated, synthetic version of Hyaluronidase (often called Hyalase), a naturally occurring enzyme in the body:
- The Process: When injected into the area, the enzyme immediately begins breaking chemical bonds between hyaluronic acid molecules, turning the gel-like filler into smaller particles.
- Absorption: Your body then naturally absorbs and processes these particles over the following hours and days.
- Targeting: It specifically targets HA fillers and does not affect permanent fillers or natural collagen.
Why Consider Dissolving?
Patients typically seek this treatment for several reasons:
- Aesthetic Correction: Fixing “duck lips,” puffiness, or unnatural-looking overfilled cheeks.
- Migration: Removing filler that has moved, such as lip filler spreading into the area above the lip line.
- Complications: Resolving hard lumps, bumps, or the “Tyndall Effect” (a bluish tint caused by shallow placement).
- Emergencies: Immediate dissolving is critical for vascular occlusion, where filler blocks a blood vessel.
What to Expect During the Procedure:
- Duration: The treatment is fast, typically taking 10–20 minutes.
- Comfort: Numbing cream is often applied to the area first to minimize mild stinging or pressure.
- Safety First: A patch test is often required at least 20 minutes before treatment to rule out rare allergic reactions to the enzyme.
Timeline & Recovery:
- Immediate Effects: You may see softening within minutes, but noticeable results usually peak within 24–48 hours.
- Downtime: Swelling is common immediately after injection and usually subsides within 24–72 hours. Bruising may also occur.
- Full Results: It takes roughly 2 weeks for the filler to be completely broken down and for the tissue to settle.
- Re-treatment: If you wish to have new filler, practitioners recommend waiting at least 2 weeksto ensure the enzyme is no longer active in the area.
